How to Write an Article
It does not matter if you are trying to write an article for school, write an article for college, write an article for a website or write an article for your blog it can writing an article can be done in a couple of EASY steps.
First of all, let me tell you that writing an article gets easier with practice. Just like everything, with practice the steps in writing an article become mental memory (instead of muscle memory). You know the process and you just let the words flow off your fingertips.
The first step is deciding what you want to write about. We are not going to go into picking a subject today, we are assuming that you already know what you want to write about. This article is about the actual writing of an article not how to pick an article to write.
If you are trying to build a website that attracts visitors picking articles to write is a different type if training. We do that on our website also if you are interested.
So, you have your subject, right?
First come up with a working title. We say working because you can always change it later. Sometimes you realize you can come up with a more creative title after you finish your article. So, for now, just put a title on there as a place holder.
Your title should at the very least let the readers know what the article is about. Don’t write a paragraph for you title. Just a few words.
For this example we are going to assume you are going to be writing an article on “How to Write an Article”. Like that? Works out great for us.
Now you have a working title. What we would suggest doing next is doing an internet search on “How to Write an Article”, you can get some great idea about writing articles and it will help you put together an outline of what information you want to put in your article.
If you are old school (depending on the subject) you can even use an encyclopedia for those of you who know those are.
As you look over your internet results make notes on what types of information people are putting in their articles about “How to Write and Article.”
You will probably end up with things like:
- Subject
- Preparation
- Research
- Outline
- Building out the Outline
- Writing the Article
- Credits/References
Hey, this is actually your initial outline. See how easy that was!
Now build it out adding steps under each main heading.
After you do that start writing using your outline as a guild to follow while you write your article.
Now, be VERY careful not to plagiarize. You cannot copy directly from someone else’s article without giving them proper credit. That is the Credits/References step.
There are a couple of different ways to do your credits and references; we aren’t going into those today. The easiest thing is to not directly copy anyone. Take the information you have and write an article in your own words.
Make it yours, not someone else’s.
You can always give credit to someone if you got a lot of inspiration from their article either in your article or at the end. If you found the information online then just mention their name, website and perhaps even put a link to it.
Still, don’t just copy their article. It is great to give credit if they inspired you but you should still write in your own words.
