Promoting your website and driving traffic to it is not rocket science (well maybe just a little) but it does take some time and effort on your part.
There are a number of ways you can go about it but here are the ones I would start with.
Focus on Website SEO. SEO or search engine optimization affects the way the search engines view your site which determines where you show up on the search listings. There are lots of services that help with SEO, some expensive and some free. A good website builder can provide it to you for free.
Social Media Marketing. Social media marketing is probably one of the easiest ways to promote your website. Simply put, you post to your social media accounts letting your friends know you have a website and what you are selling/promoting. There are a lot of websites out there that will help you with social media marketing ideas. Don’t go to crazy trying to pay for it. You can do it yourself using free resources and some effort on your part.
Search Engine Listing. .You can submit your site directly to the search engines (yahoo, google, bing, etc…) or you can hire a company to do it for you. I recommend just doing it yourself. This as well as good SEO will help get your sites recognized. Sometimes I skip this and just rely on SEO.
Signature Branding. .I don’t rely too much on this but it means a distinctive pattern, product, or something else that identifies your site and makes it different. It helps people to remember who you are. When I said above I don’t rely too much on this I guess that is a little bit of a lie. I do try to keep my sites focused on something specific. That way people know why they are coming to my site and it is more consistently listed on the search engines because of the content I have on the site.
Reciprocal Linking. ..Reciprocal linking can be a great way to promote your site. In effect it means trading links with another site. I have found it is more helpful if both sites have enough traffic to make it worth it for both of them. If one site has lots of visitors and the other has none it isn’t really reciprocal. It also helps if the sites complement each other. If one site sells cameras then a site selling dog food isn’t a good reciprocal link. A site with cameras linking with one that sells tri-pods would work much better.
Focus on Quality Content. .Quality content goes without saying. Search engines like quality content, visitors like quality content, other web masters like quality content. If you have frequent quality content over time you will get visitors.
Use Google Local Business. Sign up on Google Local Business or other similar sites. Anything you can do to get your name/brand out there helps.
